122,078,905 ETH are in circulation, against no fixed cap — issuance has no defined end.
Officially a digital commodity (SEC-CFTC, Mar 2026) AND contested — its securities status was alleged or widely disputed. Both classifications apply. Context: ~60% of supply was pre-issued in the 2014 ICO (no mining).
Reported as the regulator's position, not ours. Assets nobody has ruled on are left unclassified rather than sorted by our own guess.
An asset counts once. Wrapped coins, staked derivatives and stablecoins are claims on something already in the list, so they are listed separately rather than added to the total. That's why an asset can rank higher on CoinSpectrum than on aggregators that count claims alongside the coins those claims are backed by. The methodology sets out both rules, and the counting rule argues for them.
